To all whom it may concern:
The bearer hereof, Samuel M Kern, a private of Captain Loman D Company, of the 5th Regiment of Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, aged 44 years, 5 feet, 9 inches, light complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, and by profession a farmer; born in the state of Pennsylvania, and enlisted at Johnstown in the state of Pennsylvania on the 4th day of September 1864, to serve for the period of one year, is hereby permitted to go to Willmore, in the County of Cambria, in the state of Pennsylvania,, he having received a furlough from the 17 day of February to the 19 day of March 1865, at which period he will rejoin his station at Camp Parole, Md., or wherever it then may be, or be considered a deserter.

Subsistence has been furnished to said Samuel M Kern to the 17 day of February 1865 and pay to the ___.

Given under my hand, at Camp Parole, near Annapolis, Md, this 16 day of February, 1865, by order of the Secretary of War.
