This might be James' arrival record, if he left from Larne. Most people from Killowen left from Liverpool. This man's age is a bit old for James, but he might have "stretched" it a bit. It is also a year earlier than he said he immigrated on the 1900 Census, but people's recall when answering census questions is not always 100% correct. Or his wife might have provided the census information. It is the closest match I have found so far. James Sands, farmer, 24, male, arriving 4 Jun 1885, on the State of Nevada. a farmer, born in Ireland, paid for his own ticket, left from Glasgow or Larne. http://castlegarden.org/quick_search_detail.php?p_id=1864727 |
