Events

Event Date Place Description Sources
Birth about October 7, 1874 Kilkeel Civil Parish, County Down, Ireland   1a 2a
Event Note

John's birth was registered twice, for some reason, both saying October 19. But he was likely baptized October 7, 1874, so he would have to have been born by then. :) His death record says October 7, 1875. See notes at his baptism also.

I think the years in the baptism register as indicated on nli.ie and at ancestry.com are wrong by one year. 1874 baptisms are counted as 1875. The years in the margins and at the top of the pages in the original register are in a different handwriting than the baptism entries themselves.

In John Magee's case, his birth is in the civil registrations as being on 19 October 1874 in Tullyframe. Allowing for the tendency of people to register the births late or not remember the actual date, John was probably born on or just before October 7, 1874.
