Narrative

John Goggin's death record says that his mother's maiden name was Madigan. In 1870 he was living in the same houselhold as a James Madigan who was a tinsmith. There is also a Daniel Madigan, tinsmith, in Cleveland at the same time. These could be John's maternal cousins.

On Griffith's valuation of Ireland, taken in the late 1850's and 1860's, shows that the only place where the names Goggin and Madigan occurred together was in Limerick and Limerick City. It's possible that John was born there.

However there is a tree at ancestry.com that says he was born in County Cork, and another tree that says he was born in either Clare or Kerry. No sources were given.
