Explanation of "Pomona":

"Belief is an excellent thing to lay upon the altars of the musty past; so I would gladly believe the heathen story of these goddess patrons of grain, fruit and flowers. I am quite willing to accept all that is supernatural in the ancient pagan account of the three feminine deities. I must confess to a little curiosity in the matter of mythical lore, etc. ..."
