Before Judge Parmenter
John Knowles and James Crim, alias Jenkins, were arrested for breaking and entering the store of John Rumney, No. 9 Maverick square, East Boston, and larceny of clothing to the value of $70, and each held in $1500 for examination on Thursday next.

John Rumney was about 52 at the time, born in England, a tailor. He was a tailor in England also.
John C Knowles is probably the son of Caleb Knowles who was at 29 Chelsea St EB in 1876. In 1870 at age 15 John was a sailor.
