Narrative

George Polly was most likely born in England. See below. His wife may have
been born in England or Wales. (No sources yet.)

George Polly was in Woburn by 3 Feb 1648/9 when land was laid out to
him. He was a carpenter and was surveyor of fences in 1665.

A file uploaded to rootsweb.com by Isabel Defenbaugh cites a number of
sources and seems reliable. In it she states that:

Charles E. Banks, in his Topographical Dictionary of 2885 English
Emigrants to New England 1620-1650 says that George Polly was from St.
Leonard Shoreditch, Middlesex, England. He is said to have arrived in
America on board a ship called the Mayflower.

She goes on to say that George is on various tax rolls and court
records in Woburn from 1655 to 1670,. His will was proved 1 Apr
1684. In it he mentions his wife Elizabeth, and his children John,
George, Elizabeth, hannah, Samuel, Edward, and Sarah. The inventory of
his property included a small house with 35 adjoining acres and
additional acres in upland swamp, meadow, and woodland.

There was a George Polly who served under Captain John Carter (or
Cutler) in King Philip's War, but whether it was this George Polly has
not been resolved.
