His son Peter Durkin's death certificate, Feb 28, 1918, Cleveland, Ohio, said his name was Patrick.
I am inclined toward Patrick, since I think I found Peter's birth record, and maybe John's.
On Griffith's Valuation of Sligo, finished 1858, there is a Patrick Durkin occupying parcel 9a, in the village of Aclare. This might be him.
