Narrative
It looks like the original Scottish spelling of this name is McShenoig. See son Lachlan's baptism (transcripted) record for example. There are a lot of McShenoigs on the records in South End Argyll.
"The MacShannons of today are descended from the ancient family of McShenoig, the hereditary harpers to the Clan Donald, who held the important castle at Dunaverty Point on the south coast of Kintyre from the 13th to the 16th century. "

Events
Event | Date | Place | Description | Sources |
---|---|---|---|---|
Birth | about 1787 | South End, Argyll, Scotland | 1a | |
Event Note
their 1841 Census said Alexander and Susan (Lang/Long) McShinnon were born in 1796, but I am choosing the 1851 and 1871 information to estimate their birth years because of the birth year of Susan's youngest child on the censuses, Alexander, whom the censuses say was born between 1831 and 1833. |
