Narrative
I have concluded, at least until there is other evidence, that Martha's maiden name was Brock for the following reason:
the McDonald Family Tree at rootsweb, at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:761934&id=I632, provided some information about this family. All that I could check was accurate. The tree said that Martha's name was Brock and also that she was "related to General Iasaac Brock of the British Army. There is a memorial to General Brock near Niagara Falls.She was 5 years old when her father died."
I haven't verified this relationship to the General yet.

Martha's 1850 Census said she was born in Canada East. This would be Quebec. Her 1881 Census and her death record said she was born in Ontario.
