Private First Class Richard Hunt was a paratrooper Veteran of World War II. He served with HQ Battery, 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. He made a combat parachute jump during Operation Market Garden in Holland and fought during the battle for Nijmegen Bridge. He was severely wounded in action by artillery in Belgium during The Battle of The Bulge in January 1945 and awarded the Purple Heart. Richard is mentioned in four different books about World War II. Some of the books have photos of him. After the war he was a machinist at Fort Monmouth, NJ for many years. He retired in 1975. He was a Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was survived by two sons and three grandchildren. His mother was Virginia Hughes. After her divorce from Harold Hunt she remarried John McGoldrick. Virginia's findagrave memorial incorrectly lists her maiden name as Wilson. Left by Jan Bos from Nijmegen, Holland on 11 Dec 2020 |
