Narrative

Family information said that John's grandparents' farm was at one end or the other of McCracken Road in Cleveland and that the family was fairly well off. A rootsweb database says John's grandfather's residence was on Union Ave when he died.

------------------
John was still living at 4025 E. 89th St. when his grandfather, Ned Rodgers died on 16 Nov 1916. John was the informant on Ned Rodgers' death record.

-------------------
When he registered for the draft in WWI, John was married and living at 7903 Jones Rd., Cleveland, and working as a foreman for the Cleveland water department. He was of medium height and build, with grey eyes and brown hair. (Source: WWI Draft Registrations at ancestry.com.)

In 1920 they were living with May's mother at 7437 Clement, around the corner from William and Ann O'Rourke. (1920 Census, 15th Ward of Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio. Series T625, Roll 1367, Page 159 or 14B?) In 1930 they were in their own home at 2425 E. 124th, and had May's mother and brother with them. John was working as the chief water reader for the city in 1920 and as a police officer in 1930. (1930 Census, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio. Series T626, Roll 1772, Page 8B E. D. 758.) They later retired to St. Petersburg, FL.

John was "of St. Petersburg, Fla." at the time of his sister Mary's death in 1962. (Cleveland Necrology Files online for Mary Murphy.)
