Notes on the family of Ezra and Rebecca (Pomeroy) Davis, Sr., from Maine Families in 1790, Volume 5, (Picton Press.), which gives their sources.
Ezra Davis, Sr., was of Falmouth 24 Jul 1750, described as "late of Kittery." He was living in Woolwich when his son Ezra, Jr., was born, according to his son's pension application. (See his file.) In 1757 he served in the First Company of Soldiers of the Second Parish of Georgetown, now Bath. On 12 May 1758 Ezra and Rebecca's son Thaddeus, age 4, was captured by Indians at Eastern River. Her father was killed and her brother William, age about 14, was also captured. Nothing was heard of the boys after that.
In 1766 Ezra was in Dresden, and then settled permanently at Gardinerstown, now Pittston, "probably well before 4 Jan 1777." He is on the 1790 Census in Pittston.
According to the account in Maine Families, Rebecca (Pomeroy) Davis had thirteen children. The first, Thaddeus, is estimated to be born about 1754 and the last, Rebecca, between 1787 and 1794. This means she was bearing children for 33 years. How old was she when she married, fourteen?
