Galon Lander Barlow, 86
Fisherman, gardener, Bourne harbor master
BUZZARDS BAY - Galon Lander Barlow, 86, a retired self-employed fisherman, died Wednesday at Tobey Hospital in Wareham after a long illness. He was the husband of Rita (Aiken) Barlow for 63 years.
Born in Cataumet, he was a graduate of Bourne High School, where he was class president. He also attended Northeastern University. Mr. Barlow served in the Navy during World War II and was discharged in 1945 as a gunner's mate 3rd class. He was a self-employed fisherman in the waters of the town of Bourne for more than 50 years, retiring at the age of 80. During his lifetime, he was the town harbor master, herring agent and deputy shellfish warden. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers at his home in Buzzards Bay.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, William T. Barlow of Buzzards Bay, Galon L. Barlow Jr. of Beaufort, N.C. four daughters, Kathryn H. McDonald, Judith A. Seymour and Gail R. Watson, all of Buzzards Bay, and Elizabeth Barlow-Robbins of Plymouth a sister, Priscilla Geary of Wareham 26 grandchildren 24 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Edward Barlow and George Barlow.
A graveside service will be held at - p.m. tomorrow in Pocasset Cemetery, County Road, Pocasset. Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, Box 615, 100 North St., Hyannis, MA 02601.CENTERServices planned Tuesday.
