BUZZARDS BAY - Rita (Aiken) Barlow, 83, died Sunday at Tobey Hospital in Wareham after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Galon L. Barlow. They had been married for 62 years.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Barlow was a resident of Buzzards Bay. She was a commercial inshore fisherman and worked the waters of Buzzards Bay for 42 years alongside her husband harvesting bay scallops. Mrs. Barlow was a Gold Star Mother, having a son killed in action while in the military.

Surviving are four daughters, Elizabeth Barlow of Florida, Katherine McDonald, Judy Seymour and Gail Watson, all of Buzzards Bay two sons, W. Thomas Barlow and Galon L. Barlow Jr., both of Buzzards Bay three sisters, Sister Katherine Aiken SND of Ipswich, Katherine Cardoza and Edna Laracy of East Boston 27 grandchildren 46 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was also the mother of the late Buddy Barlow and Edward Barlow.

A family graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Pocasset Cemetery.

Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. (Route 28), Bourne. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 615, 100 North Street, Hyannis, MA 02601 or to the Bourne's Friends Food Pantry, 6B Colonel Drive, Bourne, MA 02532.
