A gedcom file at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ named jespat.ged, uploaded by Jesse Davis and updated regularly, contains much more detail regarding the members of this family and their descendants. Another file, also at rootsweb, called doggendorf2000 traces Jacob Snyder's ancestry back three generations in Germany.
According to page 15 of Jacob S. Royer's Reminiscences of My Grandmother [Mary Ann Kiel,]'s Life, 'Jacob Snider refused to enlist in the Union army on account of his religious belief. He was suspected of being a southern sympathizer and in time was almost in danger of his life. He was drafted, but in view of his church position, was excused; again he was drafted but paid commutation money to avoid joining.'
