"TIMOTHY L. HUNT, an old and highly respected citizen of Roxbury, was born in Yorkshire, England, November 14, 1827, and is a son of Henry and Elizabeth (Cleminson) Hunt, natives of England. OBITUARY: The Daily Tribune, Johnstown, Cambria Co., Pa: Tuesday,
September 13, 1904:
Timothy L. Hunt, whose death yesterday afternoon was announced in this paper last evening, was born in Yorkshire, England, November 14, 1827. His parents were Henry and Elizabeth Cleminson Hunt, who came to America in 1830 and located in Pottsville. After a short residence in that place they came to Cambria County and located in East Taylor Township, about four miles above Conemaugh, where Henry Hunt died in 1849, at the age of fifty years. His wife followed him to the grave in June 1895, at the age of eighty- six years.
Timothy Hunt lived a life common to the majority of farmers' sons. He attended the common schools for a few terms and then went to work on the Pennsylvania Canal, driving a team of horses for the Bingham and other lines. His run was between Johnstown and Pittsburgh. At the age of sixteen he became and apprentice in the blacksmith shop conducted by Kenly & Cageby, and for fifty years after completing his trade he carried on business on Hayes Street, besides being engaged in farming in East Taylor Township. His last blacksmith shop was located in Roxbury Borough, where he also owned some property some time ago.
In March, 1850, the deceased and Miss Eleanor M. Kern were married in Greensburg. She was a daughter of Joseph Kern, a Greensburg hatter many years ago, and a sister of George Kern, one of the first settlers on the South Side, where he owned considerable property in the early days of Johnstown. Mrs. Hunt died in the Eighth Ward in May 1901.
Besides his son and two daughters, Mr. Hunt is survived by a brother, a sister, thirteen grand children and five great grand children. They are Helen, Dwight, and Mrs. Rutland Wicks, children of Mr. and Mrs. Rutland Wicks, and Arthur J. Sloan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Sloan, of the Eighth Ward, and Barron Hunt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hunt, of Boswell.
The funeral will take place from the Barnett home at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon when S. G. Noble, pastor of the Louther Memorial Chapel, will conduct the obsequies to be assisted by John H. Lancaster, pastor of the Conemaugh M. E. Church. The remains will be laid to rest in Sandyvale Cemetery, where those of Mrs. Hunt are buried.
