John C Feran

Birth Name John C Feran
Gender male
Age at Death about 77 years, 1 month, 18 days

Narrative

John C Feran died in Cleveland, Ohio, September 18, 1910. His death certificate says his father's name was Barney, but his mother's name was unknown. His daughter Nellie (Feran) Tomlin's death record (August 27, 1948, Warren, Ohio) said both her parents were born in County Down. Almost all the Ferans on Griffith's Valuation of Co. Down were in Kilbroney, 63 out of 73.

I have included John as a son of Bernard Feran and Bridget Morgan of Ballyedmond Townland, Kilbroney Civil District, County Down, because a picture of his son Joseph Henry Feran was found among the belongings of Bernard and Bridget's presumed daughter Elizabeth who died in Ballyedmond Townland, Kilbroney, Co. Down, 21 October, 1918.

A son of that couple named John was baptized 31 July 1833 in Kilbroney Catholic parish. That is about 2 years earlier than the earliest estimated birth year for John Feran of Cleveland. There was one other John Feran in the Kilbroney baptisms from 1826 to 1844 with a father named Bernard, but he was baptized even earlier, on 6 January 1826 (mother: Anne Burns). Also John Feran of Cleveland named his first son Edward and used Henry as a middle name for his third son Joseph. Bernard Feran and Bridget Morgan had sons named Edward and Henry.

Corrections and more information are welcome.
