The Kilkeel parish records say that Michael was baptized 20 August 1851.

As of April 2020, the dates being derived from the Kilkeel baptism registers in the 1870s are incorrect, being a year later than the civil birth registers. I don't know how far back this error starts. Michael could have been baptized in 1850, which would come close to matching his death record for date of birth. Or his daughter Helen, who provided the information on his death record, may have had the wrong information.

His daughter Catherine's birth information in 1889 said he was born about 1858.
His daughter Theresa's birth information in 1892 said he was born about 1850.
Michael's 1900 census said he was born in 1859.
His 1910 census said he was born about 1853.
His death record said he was born September 18, 1850. His daughter Helen was informant.
