96, of Ipswich, June 23, 2006. Sr. Aiken was born Helen Catherine Aiken on
August 29, 1909 in Charlestown, MA, daughter of the late George E. and Catherine
F. (Jenkins) Aiken. Survived by her sisters, Edna Laracy and Catherine Cardoza
both of East Boston as well as many nieces and nephews and her many Sisters of
Notre Dame. She was the sister of the late Mary Aiken, Rita Barlow, Edward and
George Aiken.
Sister entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at Waltham
Novitiate on August 26, 1929, professed her First Vows on July 30, 1932 and her
Perpetual Vows on July 30, 1937. Sister received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from
Emmanuel College, Boston, and Masters in Education from Boston College, also
Graduate Courses at Fordham University, Brown University, and in Rome.
Sister's Ministries were in Lowell, Beverly, Chicopee, Lawrence, Dorchester, Worcester,
Providence, R.I. and Okayama, Japan.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady Queen Chapel on Wednesday, June 27, 2006 at 3:00 PM at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Residence, 30 Jeffrey's Neck Road, Ipswich, MA. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 1:00 until 3:00 PM.
Wednesday. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial

IPSWICH - Sister Catherine Aiken of Ipswich died June 23 in the St. Julie
Billiart Residential Care Center in Ipswich. She was 96.
Sister Aiken was born Helen Catherine Aiken in Charlestown. She entered the
Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at Waltham Novitiate in 1929. She made her first
vows in 1932 and her perpetual vows in 1937.
She received a bachelor of arts degree from Emmanuel College in Boston and a
master's degree in education from Boston College. Sister Aiken took graduate
courses at Fordham University in New York and Brown University in Providence.
She also studied theology in Rome.
Her ministries were in Lowell, Beverly, Chicopee, Lawrence, Dorchester,
Worcester, Providence, and Okayama, Japan. Sister Aiken lived at the Sisters of
the Notre Dame residence in Ipswich following her retirement.
Sister Aiken leaves three sisters, Edna -Living- and Catherine -Living-, both of
East Boston, and Margaret Walsh of Boston; several nieces and nephews; and the
sisters of her order.
A funeral Mass was to be said Wednesday in Our Lady Queen Chapel at the Sisters
of Notre Dame de Namur residence. Burial was to be in Notre Dame Cemetery,
Ipswich.
