Pennsylvania Families

James Gratton was born in Baslow about 1810. Baslow is south of Sheffield and southeast of Dronfield, between Chesterfield and Bakewell. According to the journal kept by his wife's cousin Joseph Jenkinson, James was at one time a Sunday school teacher in the Non-conformist church. (Kathleen M. There may be other children in this family. The first known child, Sarah, was born when her mother was 22.

There is said to be an entry in an 1857 Derbyshire business directory online for Gratton, James, tailor

The family was living at Church Lane, Dronfield, at the time of Agnes' birth in 1845. (Source: her birth record, see her information.)

In 1861 they were at 97 High Street, Dronfield. In 1871 they were at 66 Stoops Lane, and in 1881 at Stoops Yard, both in Dronfield.
