I am placing Preston Robert Fields in the first marriage of his father mainly because of his age. The latest date I have seen for his birth is 1855, which is still 2 years before his father's second marriage. I didn't find a birth record on line for him in Scott, Russell, or Wise counties, Virginia.

I think maybe he was named Preston at birth, then Robert was added to his name after his brother died in 1857. In 1860 there is a Robert Fields age 7, in the household, then in 1870 there is a Preston Fields, age 16.
