New York Boy Drowns in Housatonic River

Devon, Aug. 27 (AP)--Edward Coffey, 13, of New York City drowned today in the Housatonic River while bathing with a cousin whom he was visiting.

The boy, who was unable to swim, jumped off a dock onto an overturned rowboat used as a makeshift raft. The swaying of the boat caused him to lose his balance and he fell into the water.

Dennis Scates, 10, the victim's cousin, screamed for help when he saw his cousin floundering in the water. John Lesnick, of 225 Hansley Street, Bridgeport, who was fishing nearby, recovered the body a half hour later.

New York Boy Drowned
Devon, Conn., Aug 28--Edward Coffey, 13 years old, of 512 West 134th Street, New York City, drowned yesterday in the Housatonic River while bathing with a cousin.
