Thomas might be the Thomas S Jones, clerk/collector/salesman/grocer found in Columbus from 1882 to 1895. The 1893 listing at 449 Edward is definitely him, since his daughter Clara was born at that address. He was not found in the 1881 Directory, which harmonizes with his being on the 1881 census of Wales.

JONES—Thomas Stephen, Sr., aged 71, of 1251 1/2 Oak street, died Friday night in St. Francis hospital, where he had been under treatment since Jan. 15 for a complication of diseases. He was a butcher and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marietta Jones; three sons, Raymond L., Harland E., and Thomas S. Jones, Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. Etta M Trago, Mrs Ethel Rexroad, and Mrs. Clara Mendenhall, also 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the P. V. Whetsel chapel, 2142 Cleveland avenue, with burial in Green Lawn cemetery.
