Narrative
The death of Joan's son Reuben Inman in Bangor in 1921 says that her name was Joan Inman.
"Some Pioneer Settlers on the Upper Penobscot" says that Joseph Inman's daughter Joan married a man named Cary of Veazie. Source: the article by that title in The Bangor Historical Magazine, Vol 6, edited by Joseph Porter, (Reprinted Camden, ME: Picton Press, 1993), pages 1252, 1253 in the reprint.
In 1850, Joanna Carey, was living in Bangor with her first husband, Ichabod. They were near four of John H. Dudley's brothers and sisters. In 1860 Ichabod Carey, after Joanna's marriage to John H. Dudley, was age 66, and was living with an Ichabod Carey, age 34, and family, in Lagrange, Penobscot Co.
Joanna survived John H. and was living in the household of her son Thomas Carey in 1870 and with a married daughter, Martha Rogers, in 1880. She died in Veazie 6 Mar 1888, age 85.[25]
I don't believe John and Joanna had children. The young girl Gannett, with them in 1860, is probably his brother Gilman's daughter, Jeanette. She is listed with both households. Jeannette may have married their son, Francis. His age in 1850 agrees with all later censuses for Francis and Jeannette's family, as well as the Fairview Cemetery records.
