Narrative
According to the DAR application for Helene Kern Bole Nat'l #: 339020 Ancestor #: A065126, Margaret was born 6 Nov 1806 in Wheatfield Twp, Indiana Co, PA. According to Brigid Wakefield Richards, gedcom file at wc.rootsweb.com entitled "Wakefield's of Indiana County, Pennsylvania," updated 14 Oct 2003, she was born in December of 1808.
Margaret Wakefield's parents are very likely James Wakefield and Mary Clark. He was born in Aughrim, County Galway, Ireland, and she was born in In diana, Indiana County, PA. He was the first Methodist minister in Indiana County. Margaret had a brother named William, said to have been born in 1797. Margaret is said to have been born in December 1808. Samuel Wakefield, who was a Methodist minister and councilman in Greensburg, was her cousin. (Brigid Wakefield Richards, GEDCOM file at rootsweb.com entitled Wakefield's of Indiana County, Pennsylvania, updated 14 Oct 2003. See also Jeanne Kramer's posting at rootsweb's Indiana County board, dated 12 May 1998.)
In 1880, Margaret's census information and her brother's say that their father was born in Ireland and their mother in Pennsylvania. This would match this couple.(1880 Federal Census, Pennsylvania, Indiana Co., E. Wheatfield Twp., Series T9, Roll 1135, page 155 E.Dist 135, page 24[indexed at familysearch.org as "Geo. W. HERN."].
In 1856 a land warrant was issued to Margaret Wakefield for twelve acres in Indiana County. Land warrants were the first document issued to a person who wanted to obtain land from the state. A land warrant gave the applicant permission to have the land surveyed. The listing in the obituary index online for her reads:
