This biography probably comes from Jane Maria Craig's Samuel Craig, Senior, Pioneer to Western

Alexander enlisted in the the 135th Pa. Volunteer Infantry in 1862 and became its hospital sergeant. He then reinlisted as Second Lieutenant in Company A of the 57th Regiment of
the Pa. Volunteer Infantry. After the war he graduated from Jefferson Medical College (1865), married Eleanor Margaretta Righter (1867), and settled at Columbia in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he practiced medicine. He was surgeon of the Pennsylvania Railroad for thirty years, was prominent in the Medical Society of Pennsylvania and was a member of the Scotch Irish Society of America.
Alexander graduated in 1865 from the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. He practiced allopathy. He died at Columbia, PA, from apoplexy.
