Edward Aylward

Birth Name Edward Aylward
Gender male
Age at Death more than 68 years

Narrative

Edward was among the signers of a petition in 1840 requesting the
Legislature in Halifax to allow Five Islands to become part of
Colchester County. He is on a list of those who did road work
in the East River District in 1858. His house is on the map of
Five Islands drawn up by A. F. Church & Co., Granville St.,
Halifax, dated 24 Mar 1864. It is next to that of his brother
Thomas. He is not on the transcription of any of the censuses
of Five Islands.

In 1871, Edward brought a case against his brother John and
others, saying that he had not been offered a chance to purchase
his father's land, but that instead his mother had sold it to
John secretly. The will said that all sons were to be offered the
opportunity to bid for the land. The case was decided against
Edward on the grounds that he had waited too long to contest the
transactions. It is found in: Cases Argued and Determined in the
Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, reported by Benjamin Russell, John
M. Geldert, Volume II, 1880-81, (Halifax, NS: A&W MacKinlay,
1882), images at Google Books.
