Margaret Louise Jenkins

Birth Name Margaret Louise Jenkins
Gender female
Age at Death 57 years, 1 month, 2 days

Narrative

On her civil marriage record in Maine, Margaret gave her name as Margaret L Crimm (surnamed Jenkins). See her father's notes for more information about "Crimm."

Margaret and children after William:

In 1928 and 1929 Margaret and her family were listed in the City Directory at 120 Regent St., Roxbury. They were at 27 Alpine St. in 1930 and 1931. On the 1930 census, Margaret is the head of the household and has her five youngest (and unmarried) children with her. On the census the family name is spelled "Paige," the same spelling as on Lillian's marriage record in 1928 and on Zeke's census report in Maine in 1930. Previous to this the name had almost always been spelled "Page". (But her son Charlie said years later that his father was the one that changed the spelling.)

Margaret is living at 32 Burrell St., Roxbury, in 1933, 25 Cliff St., South End, in 1934, and at 2536 Washington St., Roxbury, in 1936 and 1937. Her son Charles was at this last address in 1936 and 1937 also. The next year for which Margaret is listed separately is in 1945, at 28 W. Walnut Park.

Margaret is listed in the Boston City Directory for 1945 as a restaurant worker living at 28 W. Walnut Park, Roxbury. City directory listings for her children show Charlie, Jimmy, and Lillian all on West Walnut Park in 1945 and 1946. Florence was at 3514 Washington St., and Jerome was at 72 Bragdon St.

Mother Wins Tug-of-War in Court Over Her Boy
[dateline:] Bangor, Maine, May 19
Mother and grandmother had a tug-of-war over a 12-year-old boy in the Police Court this morning with so much fierceness that a policeman was called in to separate them, the mother winning by getting away with the boy.
A hearing had been given in the case of Mrs Margaret Page of Brewer, whose five children had been placed in the custody of their grandmother, Mrs Martha Page of Bangor, for proper keeping. The mother applied for custody and while the matter was being considered, she made a quick rush for the boy. No attempt was made to get the boy back today and the case will be given a further hearing next week.

LAWYER LIBERATES PAGE CHILDREN
Latest Episode in Peculiarly Persistent Effort to Take Them From Mother.

The much discussed and oft-continued case of the five Page children was before the municipal court on Friday for still another hearing. The action was brought by Miss Marion Porter, state cruelty officer, who alleged that the children were being neglected. Miss Porter was represented by O'Connor & Conquest and Harry J Chapman represented the grandmother of the children. The father is William J Page, now in Portland.

Judge Blanchard decided that the children be placed in the custody of Miss Porter until further order, but Attorney Chapman entered an appeal and informed the mother that she could take her children with her. To this Miss Porter objected, and the door of the judge's room was closed to corral the flock, but Mr Chapman opened another door and told the mother and children to go out that way, the appeal to the supreme court being sufficient to take the matter out of the jurisdiction of the lower court, in his opinion. And the Page family departed in triumph.
