Joseph Funk Kern

Birth Name Joseph Funk Kern
Gender male
Age at Death 77 years, 7 months, 1 day

Narrative

Joseph's middle name comes from an email from Eleanor Wicks in Jan 2012.

Joseph F. is in his father's household on the 1800 to 1820 Censuses. I have not found the family in 1830.

Mary Jane Mains' excerpt of their marriage announcement reads:
KERN, Joseph jr of this borough & Hannah HERRON d/o John of Unity Twp m on 18th inst by N P Hacke (4-26-1833 WI) Joseph F (4-26-1833 RF). Eleanor Wicks' research states that the marriage date is also in the Kern family papers in the York County Historical Library.

Eleanor Wicks' research places the following son in this family and says that the previous child, Hannah Cecelia was born on 27 Nov 1837, not 27 Nov 1838. She had no sources, but might be right.

5. HARRY JACOB KERN was born on 08 Mar 1839 in Greensburg, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 09 Jan 1865 in Washington City, District Of Columbia, District of Columbia, USA (Armory Square Hospital).

Joseph and Hannah were living in Hempfield Township at the time of the 1840 Census. Joseph F. was "of Hempfield Township" when his daughters died in 1841.

Joseph is not mentioned in his father's will written in 1846. Sometime between the 1860 and 1870 censuses John and Hannah moved to St. James Township, Phelps Co., Missouri, where John died in 1884. His death record (Missouri Deaths, ancestry.com) said that he had been in Missouri for 15 years when he died. He is buried in Masonic Cemetery, St. James Township.

Censuses:
Joseph Kern, oldest son of Joseph and Margaret (Steinbaugh) Kern.

In his father's household for the census records through 1820.

Neither he nor his father were found in 1830.
