Narrative

Christopher Billups was a plate layer in 1840 at the time of his first marriage. He was residing in Deptford, as was his wife-to-be. His father was Thomas, a laborer. His brother Robert was one of the witnesses. (Source: English Billups' transcription of certificate.)

In 1851 he was farming 6 1/2 acres in Watcham, St. Paul's, Deptford, Kent. With him were his wife Jane (Gough) and four children, Thomas R., Joshua, Naomi, and Jane. (Source: English Billups' census transcriiptions)

At the time of his second marriage, Christopher was a widower, and a market gardener in Deptford. His father was listed as a farmer.

In 1861 he was a market gardener at Trundly Lane, St. Pauls, Deptford, Greenwich. With him were his second wife Jane (Parker), his four children from his first wife: Thomas, Joshua, Naomi, and Jane; and also Percy C.C. Billups, his first son from his second wife.
