In 1840 Gilman H. Dudley, his wife Mary Louisa, and their family were living in Orono. From 1843 to 1851 they were living in Bangor on the Orono Shore Road. Gilman was working as a lumberman or laborer. Veazie was formed from Bangor in 1853, and in 1860 and 1870, the family was living in Veazie.
