Narrative

A few notes on William O'Rourke that don't fit anywhere else:

William O'Rourke was from Ballintur Killowen, in the Civil Parish of Kilbroney, County Down, Northern Ireland. Ballintur is a townland on the Carlingford Lough, southeast of Newry and west of Lisnacree. It is about 1 1/2 miles from Killowen point. The auto route was called the A2 in the year 2009. There is a Catholic Church in Killowen. When it was a chapel, I believe it was associated with the main parish in Rostrevor as part of Kilbroney parish.

The townland of Ballintur was part of the Mourne estate of the Needham family, which was part of what was also known as the Kilmorey Estate.

A satellite view of this area at Google maps shows that the parcel boundaries from the time of Griffith's valuation are still there.

The form of William's surname on the Irish records is Rourke/Rorke/Roarke. William used the form O'Rourke from Liverpool onward, when he provided information for the ship's manifest when emigrating.

-----------
William's children said that William boarded with the family of Ned Rodgers, his future father in law, sometime before William and Ann were married.

------------
There was some kind of system to track naturalized immigrants' addresses that, I think, started in 1912. William is listed at 3987 East 89th address on the front of the card. It seems that they updated this information, because on the back of ther card it says: "4065 E 91st St, Aug 23 1912" and 8005 Finney Av, 11/4/13".
