Margaret Elizabeth Kiel

Birth Name Margaret Elizabeth Kiel
Gender female
Age at Death 92 years, 8 months, 7 days

Narrative

Margaret's marriage is the only one of the children's marriages that is recorded in her parents' family Bible. It is also the only marriage that took place before her father Henry Kiel's death. The text reads: "Married on the 30th October/by Henry R. Kern/Mr. Thomas Young to Miss/ Margaret E. Kiel Daughter of/H G Kiel and S Kiel all/of the Bourow of Greensburgh."

Henry R. Kern was Margaret's mother's brother. In 1847 he was a Methodist minister in Greensburg. (Source: online images at heritagequestonline.com of George Dallas Albert, editor, History of the County of Westmoreland, Pa., with Biographical Sketches, etc.(Philadelphia: Everts and Co., 1882), p. 646.

Margaret sent a postcard from Toronto mailed in 1909 with a caption to the effect of "Hello from Toronto -- Maggie". Presumably sent to her sister Elizabeth Ekstine "Eckie" Hamilton, since it was with other items of hers. (The postcard is now in possession of a descendant of Eckie.)
